When a proxy is required, you can add or update another user who is authorized to manage direct secure messages addressed to you.
Direct Message Proxy Help
When is a Proxy Required?
If you are a member of multiple groups that are enabled to receive Direct Secure Messages, a proxy is required to ensure the security and confidentiality of patient information and the continuity of patient care. Your designated proxy can read and reply to direct messages on your behalf, regardless of their own group membership.
How a Proxy Works
When you are a member of multiple groups, a message addressed to you is visible to only you and your designated proxy. This method ensures that members of other groups who may not be part of the patient's care team cannot access these messages.
Single Group Membership
If you are a member of only one group that can receive Direct Secure Messages, a message addressed to you is accessible to all members of the same group who have Secure Message Inbox authorizations. The group you belong to is likely a team responsible for the patient's care, so all authorized group members require access to the message.
Add or Update a Designated Proxy
Complete the following steps to add or update a proxy user who can view and address secure communications on your behalf:
- From the portal menu, select My Account then Direct Message Proxy. The Direct Message Proxy page opens. If you are a member of only one group that is enabled for Direct Secure Messages, the page displays a message indicating that no proxy is required. Your group's members already have access to messages in the group's Secure Message inbox.
- If you do require a proxy, access the Last Name list.
- Start entering your proxy's last name to locate their name and direct address.
- Select Save to finalize your proxy selection changes.
