Dashboard

Overview

Use the dashboard to access information to help you manage and serve your patient population. The dashboard can also be a place to share organizational news. The dashboard was introduced with portal version 5.1.0 with filter management functionality. Patient management features were added with portal version 5.1.1. Organizational news and Patient Archive Search (including the Recently Accessed Patients list) were added with portal version 5.1.2. The Critical Results feature, the Notification pane's Observation tab, and the Notification toggle capability from Practice view to Provider view were added with portal version 7.1.

Review the following notes about the dashboard:

  • The system displays information on the dashboard based on your configured authorizations and the functionality enabled for your organization.
  • The [Orders] label is configurable in the application. Other labels such as [Requests] can be used. For simplicity, [Orders] is used throughout the Help.

For more information, contact your portal user administrator.

Roles with access to Orders Inbox, Patient Archive Search, Results Inbox, or Secure Messaging Inbox have access to related functionality from the dashboard.

The content may change on a regular basis and you may have to scroll-flick to view all of it.

Portal Administrators

Note: The following information is for portal administrators.

From the portal menu bar, select Admin Tasks > Manage System Settings to turn on, create, and manage your organizational news. Update the title (optional) and add content before turning on the feature; otherwise, on the dashboard, users will see an Organizational News pane with no content. It is recommended that you add content and turn on organizational news as soon as possible after 5.1.2 upgrade to engage users. This will also ensure that even users with limited authorization privileges see content on the dashboard. See Dashboard - All Roles Have Access for more information.

You maintain a different watchlist for each of your user, group, and role combinations. The system displays indicators on the dashboard when new clinical information is received for patients, including whether new results are considered critical, on your watchlist. Results received for the patients before they were added to the watchlist can be included as "new" by valuing a system setting. You can act on watchlist patients and their results from the dashboard.

Note:

  • Before patients are added to the watchlist or when all patients are removed from the watchlist, the system displays the following message on the dashboard: No Patients on Watchlist.
  • When you add a patient to your watchlist, the system checks a setting to see the number of hours back to search for results received in the portal for that patient. Results received in the designated time frame are included in your initial watchlist view of the patient and flagged as New on the dashboard. Understand Patient Watchlist Indicators on Dashboard

There are four related indicators that you may see in the Patient Watchlist pane on the dashboard: a number-of-patients indicator, an indicator labeled New, and a number-of-results indicator, and a critical results indicator.

Number-Of-Patients Indicator

The number-of-patients indicator is the number of patients on your watchlist who have results that are awaiting your action. This number is displayed next to the Patient Watchlist pane heading. This indicator is not selectable.

Indicator Labeled New

The indicator labeled New is used to flag watchlist patients who have new results. It is displayed next to the patient's name. Select this indicator to open a dialog box to view and act on that watchlist patient or that patient's results. The New indicator is blue until you view all the patient's results in the dialog box, at which time it changes to gray. If a new result then arrives for that watchlist patient, the New indicator changes from gray to blue indicating there are unread results. The system removes the New indicator only after you remove all results from the dialog box for that watchlist patient. Results that are removed from the watchlist patient's dialog box are still accessible from the patient's document grid and from the Results Inbox (if the results are not archived).

Number-Of-Results Indicator

The number-of-results indicator accompanies the indicator labeled New and is the number of that patient's results (read and unread) that are awaiting your action. It is displayed below the New indicator when the New indicator is present. Whether you select the number-of-results indicator or the indicator labeled New, the same watchlist patient dialog box opens.

Number-of Critical Results Indicator

The number of critical results indicators is in bold red font, and is the number of new results documents where one or more results per document are flagged as critical.

Complete the following steps to view results from the patient watchlist on the dashboard:

  1. If the dashboard is not displayed, from the menu bar, select Dashboard. The dashboard opens.

  4. Select a document ID or select Actions > Open. The system displays the document in the document viewer.
  5. Select Close. The document and document viewer close.

Note: If you do not see the New flag in the Patient Watchlist, then your watchlist patients currently have no new results to view.

Understand Description in Watchlist Patient Dialog Box

If a result description is longer than the Description column width in the watchlist patient dialog box, a partial description is displayed. Position the pointer over the partial description to see the complete description. The description is not selectable.

Understand Archived and Read Check Boxes in Watchlist Patient Dialog Box

The system automatically tracks the results you have read, and the results archived by you or other users in your practice (or group). When you view a result from a watchlist patient's dialog box, the system places a check mark in the Read column for that result. If you or another user in your practice (or group) archives a result that is on your watchlist, the system places a check mark in the Archived column for that result.
